HBO defeated in privacy rights case
We defended the privacy rights of a young woman who, while crossing the street near her home in Manhattan, had been surreptitiously filmed by an HBO reality show about a family of bounty hunters. As the camera zoomed in on her chest, the show’s cast were heard crudely debating her sexual allure.
We sued, fought, and won against one of the largest and most powerful media firms in America. In so doing, we created new law establishing that the media must respect and protect the privacy rights of individuals who have no “real relationship” to the subject of a broadcast. ■
